While there are a lot of people who enjoy a diet full of high protein low carb foods, few people truly understand this lifestyle. That’s largely because they buy into the myths that are circulating around about low carb food choices. Let’s take a look at some of the myths so you can have a better understanding of high protein low carb foods.

Myth #1 – You Have to Go Into Ketosis

A lot of people eat low carb ketogenic foods with the main purpose of going into ketosis. This metabolic state is great for people who have diabetes or are obese. It helps them control their blood sugar and lose visceral fat quickly. However, you don’t have to go into ketosis to enjoy a low carb diet. While you need to eat 50 carbs or less to go into ketosis, you can eat up to 150 carbs on a low carb diet. With that in mind, add some extra carbs to your plate when you are eating low carb foods.

Myth #2 – You Can’t Eat Fiber

A lot of people who eat high protein low carb foods don’t eat any fiber, but that is a mistake. You can (and should) eat high fiber low carb foods. These foods do an excellent job of regulating your hunger and your blood sugar. The key is to count net carbs instead of total carbs. Simply take the total carbs and subtract the fiber. Then, you have the net carbs. By counting net carbs, you won’t have any problem adding more high fiber to your diet.

Myth #3 – Low Carb Diets Lead to Heart Disease

A lot of people think they will get heart disease if they eat high fat low carb foods. In reality, replacing carbs with proteins and fats can lower your blood pressure and reduce your LDL cholesterol. If you are concerned about heart disease, you can always go with lean meats instead of high fat low carb foods. Lean meats are also lower in calories so you can eat more. This is a great option for people who want to eat several small meals in a day.

Whether you are eating low carb foods or going a different direction, low carb diets are a great way to lose weight and live a healthier life. Now that you know the truth behind the myths, you can finally move forward with the low carb lifestyle.
