The Paleo Diet and Its Many Variations

caveman-regimenSo, who needs another diet? Don’t they all, in one way or another, do the same thing? Most often, if you don’t strictly stick to it, you’re back to the way you’ve always eaten, and nothing is ever achieved.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way. Because The Paleo Diet is not really a diet at all; rather, it is a nutritional lifestyle shift that looks at your relationship with your food. It’s based on things our ancestors probably ate, such as nuts, meats and berries.

The food store shelves are always filled to the brim with what look like good foods; unfortunately, so much of it is refined, with large amounts of sugar and trans fats introduced into them, that it’s no wonder our society has become more overweight with each passing year.

The Paleo Diet incorporates:Untitled design

  • Higher protein intake
  • Higher potassium and lower sodium intake
  • Higher fiber absorption
  • Lower carbs
  • A moderate to higher fat intake balancing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats
  • Higher intake of antioxidants, minerals and vitamins

When you eat healthy, you live longer. Even though our ancestors didn’t live as long as we do, they also didn’t eat meat found in modern grain-fed animals or have access to every manufactured food product that we pull off the supermarket shelves.

When partaking in The Paleo Diet, foods to eat include:

  • Fruits and Vegetables
  • Meats
  • Seafood
  • Nuts and Seeds
  • Healthy Fats

Foods to avoid include alcohol, processed foods, refined sugars and starches, dairy and grain.

There are also variations of The Paleo Diet. They are the Primal Paleo, the Normal Paleo, and the Strict Paleo. While all of them basically stick to the meats, seafood, fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds diet, there are subtle variations between the three diets.

The Primal Paleo allows for white rice, dark chocolate, fermented dairy products, raw honey, and maple syrup, as well as certain alcoholic drinks.

The Normal Paleo diet allows for dark chocolate, ghee butter, raw honey, maple syrup, and wine.

The Strict Paleo diet, well, doesn’t allow for any of those things. Just wine and grass fed butter.

Eat healthy just like your ancient ancestors did. The Paleo Diet works with your genetics to help you take the weight off. By shedding those extra pounds, you will feel younger, more energetic and stronger. Ready to take on the world!
